Head of Individual Giving- Blue Cross, Burford, Oxfordshire

The Individual Giving team is central to driving supporter acquisition and income growth at Blue Cross, excluding major donors, community, and events. The functions of the team are Supporter Acquisition, Donor development, Supporter stewardship and Legacy marketing.

We offer the public a range of opportunities to engage with and join Blue Cross and build long term relationships through propositions and products including Regular giving, lottery, raffle, cash appeals, lead generation, support with writing your Will and Pet Peace of Mind, a service that allows pets to be taken care of if the supporter passes away.

As our of Head of Individual Giving, you will have three direct reports and be responsible for a team of nine with an income budget of approx. £7m and an expenditure budget of c.£3.5million.

You will be responsible for ensuring that the team profitably recruits, develops, and retains individual supporters of Blue Cross with the goal of maximising the value of their relationship. Including that an increasing proportion go on to leave Blue Cross a legacy.

About you

You will be a highly experienced and successful direct and digital marketer, with an exceptional track record of leading, motivating and inspiring a team in a similar sized organisation with comparable reach and complexity.

With your supporter-centric approach, you will understand supporter motivations, and be committed to improving supporter experience and donor loyalty.

You will have the drive and ambition to innovate as well as continuously improve existing activities.

In addition, you will:

• be used to working to financial targets, able to optimise your expenditure budgets, prioritise your workload and meet deadlines.
• have experience of line management and influencing others to deliver on ambitious income targets.
• have great project management skills and experienced in managing multiple projects utilising both internal and external resources to deliver complex campaigns. Good with detail and quality control.
• the ability to keep calm in a busy and time critical function, you will be able to provide support and keep things on track when under pressure.
• excellent communication and interpersonal skills are vital due to the sensitive nature of some of the legacy activity
• forge strong relationships across the organisation and externally to optimise all opportunities.
• have a flexible in attitude, willing to travel occasionally, able to stay away from home from time to time and fulfil occasional evening and weekend work commitments.
• be good with people at all levels, confident, positive, and enthusiastic, a team player and showing support, tolerance and understanding of supporters and colleagues.

It would also be great if you had:

• experience in Direct or Digital Marketing on either agency or client side and managing DM or Digital agencies and media buyers
• financial management experience: ability to plan and monitor expenditure budgets and review and report income targets
• experience of line managing and leading fundraisers and developing income streams successfully
• understanding in how to engage customers or supporters and improve overall supporter experience
• about legislation within direct and digital marketing fundraising specifically the GDPR legislation.
• in depth knowledge of the principles of individual giving fundraising
• Experience of Customer Relationship Management databases, word and excel
• Ability to undertake presentations to external audiences
