Hospital Director  – RSPCA, Finsbury Park Animal Hospital, Central London

We are looking for a Hospital Director (1412) to join us at our Finsbury Park Animal Hospital for a fixed period of 12 months.

Location: site based at Finsbury Park Animal Hospital.

Working hours: 35 per week, Monday to Friday. We also welcome applications from candidates who would like to work a minimum of 3 days per week.

The role

The Hospital Director position is a great opportunity to work in the field of shelter medicine for one of the largest animal welfare organisations in the country. The post-holder will be our lead Veterinary Surgeon in the region who has overall responsibility for the operation of the hospital, the animals in our care and clinical governance of regional veterinary services.

Responsibilities 

  • Provide up-to-date advice on animal welfare and scientific matters to members of staff and the general public;
  • Perform clinical duties at the hospital;
  • Management of veterinary support services at local RSPCA branches, centres, and the local Inspectorate;
  • Line management of approximately 4 direct reports and 40 indirect reports, and overseeing budgets and staffing;
  • Work in accordance with the RCVS code of conduct to ensure compliance of staff on the use of veterinary medicines;
  • Develop Regional veterinary strategy by working collaboratively with other stakeholders, ensuring the quality of the health and welfare of animals in the care of the region by promoting best practice through all reports and those external to the RSPCA;
  • Ensure the procurement and provision of veterinary services within the RSPCA remains in accordance with the RSPCA’s strategic priorities, policies and procedures, ensuring the maintenance of high standards;
  • Promotion and development of professional relationships between the RSPCA and private veterinary surgeons and other animal welfare charities;
  • Participate in clinical audit, publication and research relating to preventive and shelter medicine;
  • Mentoring RSPCA vets (including the Professional Development Phase (PDP) for recent graduates) and supporting the development of veterinary initiatives within the Region.

What we are looking for in you

It is essential that you:

  • Are a member of  Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons;
  • Have experience of managing a team of clinical professionals;
  • Have experience of managing budgets;
  • Have knowledge and experience of broader animal welfare considerations in the provision of veterinary advice;
  • Can demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
