Location: Fully remote, with occasional UK travel required.  Must be UK-based for tax purposes.

Contract: Full time (37 hours per week), permanent

Salary range: £45 – 49,000

Are you passionate about developing leadership and management in the veterinary sector?  In this role, you will be responsible for leading the ongoing development and delivery of the VMG’s educational activities, supporting the growth of critical skills across the industry and helping aspiring, new and established veterinary leaders and managers to thrive.

We are the Veterinary Management Group, the professional membership association for all those in leadership and management roles in the veterinary sector.  Our Vision is a veterinary world where all benefit from excellent leadership and management.  This is an exciting time for us, as we review a new five-year strategic plan, and look to continue to develop our membership support.  Our award-winning, ILM-accredited qualifications in veterinary leadership and management are world-class, and we’re looking for a special person to lead our ongoing provision.

About the role

The purpose of this role is to lead VMG’s education activities, including our VMG/ILM qualifications, CPD programme, and annual Congress programme.

These three areas of responsibility include:

• Teaching: Leading the development and delivery of VMG’s qualification suite, including teaching and assessment, supporting students, reviewing and updating content, and accreditation and quality assurance.  Leading and developing an expert team of tutors, workshop leaders, assessors and quality assurers.
• CPD: Leading the development and delivery of VMG’s CPD programme, both online and in person, including internal and external events.
• Congress: Creating the educational programme for VMG’s Annual Congress, including streams, speakers, topics, sessions and workshops.

You will liaise regularly with other members of the VMG team (such as admin, finance, and marketing) and external partners, maintaining positive relationships, promoting our work, and creating opportunities for collaboration and mutual support.

There is also the opportunity to become involved in VMG’s project and policy work.  This currently includes our Leadership Standards Framework and State of UK Veterinary Leadership Report; and research into the mental health of veterinary leaders; and is an area of future growth for us.

About you

You will have strong credibility in the veterinary sector, with expertise in teaching, learning, assessment, and/or coaching; and strong experience (supported by a minimum of a Level 5 qualification) in veterinary leadership and management.  You will be expected to be a thought leader in the field of veterinary leadership and management, contributing to the development of the discipline and a supportive community of practice.

Skills we will expect to see include: Student support (empathy, emotional intelligence), practical skills (problem solving, coaching, project management), a questioning approach (mutually inspiring tutor training sessions), up to date with contemporary approaches to both leadership and teaching, excellent line management/team leadership skills (leading the tutoring/assessment team) and confidence in a range of settings (meeting a student in a field vs presenting to the Board!).

What we offer

Salary range: £45 – 49,000, 25 days’ leave, and enthusiastically supported/financed CPD.

You will be supported by an excellent administration team; as well as the current post-holder who will be available to allow a period of shadowing, plenty of backup, time to find your feet, and as smooth a transition as possible.
