This role involves the management and coordination of clinical resource across a defined geographical area. You will be responsible for reviewing all clinic rotas to ensure our permanent staff is being deployed in the fairest and most commercially viable way possible, then subsequently filling any unassigned clinical shifts with temporary locum resource. The role will be supported by the Locum Network Team, who are responsible for onboarding locums for deployment. The main purpose of the role is to achieve operational continuity and a minimisation of temporary staffing spend wherever possible. Due to the nature of the role, we require flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and bank holidays when required.Within this role, you will either be responsible for our resources across one of the following regions;

Scotland and North East

London and the surrounding

Your location can be anywhere in the UK as long as you are happy to travel to the designated geographical area on occasion, if required.

What are the main responsibilities?

  • Review regional wide clinic rotas (on average 6-8 clinics) to ensure a fair and reasonable rota for all employees, flagging any issues that may impact employee sustainability or result in cost implications and offering alternative solutions/suggestions
  • Develop local strategies by liaising with local clinic stakeholders to co-ordinate rota management across the region to ensure optimal use of permanent and locum resource
  • Manage the temporary locum bank to strategically allocate resource to clinical shifts, prioritising workload via sound commercial rationale and an appreciation of business needs
  • Effective negotiation of shift placement costs via strong locum engagement
  • Identify key trends, opportunities, and risks in resources to maximise resource allocation
  • Manage and review the regional resource budget in line with the budgeted locum rate and hours and in accordance with staffing levels
  • Ensure business continuity and operational contingencies are in place
  • Rapidly alter resource allocation tactics when facing challenges in predicted shift fill rate/time
  • Effective use of the Vets Now in-house shift management system, ensuring that the system reflects all resource and locum rate allocations
  • Provide locums with relevant feedback and ensure any concerns regarding individuals are escalated to the appropriate person for action and the feedback process is followed
  • Actively participate in all regional team meetings
  • Continual awareness of legal and company compliance
  • Creating a close working relationship with the permanent recruitment team to ensure sound local market knowledge via a clear understanding of dynamics

Skills and experience required:

  • Experience with rota planning and rota management
  • Proven track record with strategic resource planning
  • Experience navigating staffing budgets and controlling costs
  • Commercial awareness and first-class negotiation skills
  • The ability to work in a time-critical manner, and make sound commercial decisions at pace
  • The confidence and credibility to work in partnership with key internal stakeholders
  • Self-motivated, able to take ownership and accountability of own work
  • A proven multi-tasker with the ability to cope with a busy workload with conflicting/changing priorities
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, can evidence building win: win commercial relationships

  • Computer Literate with Word, Excel, and Outlook, and able to quickly pick up new IT systems

Up to £35,000 DOE plus benefits

Home based, meeting travel in line with business requirements (subject to Covid-19 guidance)
