Gillian joined the Board of Directors in June 2016. Initial training as a Veterinary Nurse at Edinburgh University was followed by a Head VN position in Pinner. Subsequent roles include Key Account Manager, Lecturer, Internal Verifier, and Locum RVN. As Centre Manager for the College of Animal Welfare in 2000, Gillian was Deputy Programme Leader in the setting up of Scotland’s first honours degree in Veterinary Nursing between CAW, Napier and Edinburgh Universities.
Gillian’s practice, Ayrton Veterinary Hospital near Edinburgh, opened in 1999 with Gillian as co-owner and Business Manager, and developed to a purpose-built RCVS accredited Veterinary Hospital in 2006. Gillian was part of the design team for the Hospital and co-project managed the yearlong build. In 2017 Ayrton was sold to Independent Vetcare Ltd and Gillian stayed with the practice in her current role of Business Director.
She has interests in clinical workflow and practice standards – creating, implementing and maintaining protocols and working processes – believing that structure and standardisation in practice can help a business achieve quality assurance and professional confidence. She obtained the European School of Veterinary Post Graduate Studies (ESVPS) Certificate in Business & Professional Skills (Cert B&PS) in 2011.
