For me, leadership is a set of behaviours. It can be shown in the way you turn up for your family, your team, and complete strangers. It is how you conduct yourself when facing a challenge and the ability to create spaces to elevate those without a voice. It is a dedication to encourage the best out of people. I’ve held leadership roles, captained Aussie rules and rugby teams, and been President of the BVLGBT+ but when it comes to pinpointing my proudest moment as a leader, it’s difficult for me to pick a single instance. I think this is mainly because in the moment, I’m not conscious of the impact my leadership is having. I also feel it’s an ongoing process. My mum proudly recants a story of me leading a grown bull to a drinking trough, by it’s nose ring, when no-one else would go near the beast. I was around 5 years old, perhaps this was the start of my leadership journey, and my career within the animal sector.
