I am a veterinary surgeon, who qualified in 1991 and spent the first three years of my career in mixed practice in the north of Scotland. In 1994, I ventured across the border to Lancashire and started work in my current practice initially as an assistant – and then in 1996 I became a partner.
In 2004 my business partner retired and I spent 10 years running the practice as sole director. In 2014 one of my team became a director and since then we have run the practice together. During this time, it has grown from 6 employees to a team of 32 and we have also moved into purpose-built premises on two different sites.
I am passionate about veterinary practice management and although I now have a full-time practice manager, I still am very actively involved in growing and evolving our practice. I am also passionate about mental wellbeing within our practice. My co-director and myself have introduced many measures to constantly improve our team’s happiness, although we do recognise that in such a fast-changing veterinary profession there is always a lot more that could be done.
On the VMG Board I am now the Chair of the Board and in that role I chair board meetings as well as manage our office team.
In my spare time I love walking my dog, Rubix, and also campervanning abroad when the pandemic allows!
