Wildlife Health Services Practice Manager – ZSL, London Zoo & Whipsnade Zoo

Role Profile

The Wildlife Health Services team (WHS) care for our animals across ZSL —everything from ants to elephants! WHS are at the heart of ZSL’s commitment to animal welfare and conservation. Aspiring to achieve the highest standards of care, the WHS team provide clinical and pathology veterinary services for ZSL London Zoo and ZSL Whipsnade Zoo.

We are looking for a full-time Practice Manager who can help WHS achieve their strategic vision of being a global leader in wildlife health. This role is an exciting new opportunity that is integral to the WHS team and open to development.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Managing purchases for the department
  • Managing and overseeing the rota
  • Managing inventory of consumable items, such as veterinary pharmaceuticals and liaising with suppliers
  • Overseeing legal compliance (i.e. zoo inspections, updating risk assessments etc.) with the support of the veterinary nurses and other staff
  • Organise travel and Continued Professional Development for WHS staff
  • Organising timetables and providing support for students
  • Project managing grant budgets

Qualifications & Experience

  • People management experience
  • Previous experience in veterinary practice with extensive practice management experience is highly desirable.
  • Certificate in Veterinary Practice Management (CVPM) or willingness to obtain this is highly desirable.

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to manage competing priorities, excellent time management and good organisational skills are essential
  • Good IT literacy
  • The ability to travel independently between ZSL sites (London Zoo and Whipsnade Zoo).
